Some people you don’t see for a long while… Ed Thomas is one of those guys…A big congratulations to him for forging the way ahead for TB4E.com OOPPP Narf…Ed thanks and by the way BSBS!!!!
In bright sunshine and light to moderate winds the days racing got under way at 11 am. The event which was being shared with a Solo Open saw the Phantoms off first with Ed Thomas from Pilkington S C setting the early pace with Adam Perry, Pennine S C and Phil Worth, Delph S C having a close race in 2nd and 3rd.Midfleet positions were being challenged by James Dawson, Pennine S C, Ollie Shaw, Leigh and Lowton S C and Mike Seger from Elton. The woody of James Dawson was outpointing many of the newer boats and moving through the fleet until an unfortunate breakage ended his first race with a retirement. Ed in the meantime had increased his lead at the front and took the honours in Race 1 from Phil 2nd Adam 3rd.
Race 2 brought an increase in wind and a new course until the wind dropped, shifted and the original course was reposted. After another clear start Ed Thomas set the pace with the rest of the fleet playing catch up and having a good tactical battle amongst themselves with all the fleet finishing within seconds of each other. This time 2nd and 3rd places were reversed with Adam taking 2nd place from Phil in 3rd.
Race 3 again got under way at the first attempt proving what a well behaved lot us Phantom sailors really are. The new course took the fleet up the length of the reservoir this time and into the shadow of the surrounding farm buildings. The local knowledge of Mike Seger proved advantageous with him reaching the windward mark first and finally giving him something to smile about on the day. Unfortunately for him it wasn’t to last long as he then went on a weed gathering mission. Ed worked his way through to the front again and maintained the lead to take his third bullet of the day. Meanwhile James in the woody, despite its extra weight and age (the boat not the helm!) steadily moved through the fleet to come home in 2nd place.
Overall Results:
1st Ed Thomas (Pilkington S C)
2nd Phil Worth (Delph S C)
3rd Adam Perry (Pennine S C)
